My adventures strain hunting cannabis around the world. In this blog I’m going to share with you some of my adventures I’ve had while gathering landrace strains from around the globe. I travelled to some of the most remote and exotic regions of the world. I searched for rare and unique strains of cannabis for my own breeding program. Learn about the secrets and challenges of finding landrace strains in Japan, Australia, Alaska, Mexico, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Russia, and New Zealand in my detailed blog post

Finding Rare Strains in the Mountains of Northern Japan

While searching for wild cannabis plants in the mountains of Northern Japan, I came across a single female plant in full flower with a few seeds. I have no idea where the pollen came from as there were no other plants around. It was fall, and she was ready to harvest, the leaves of the plants were already yellow and orange, and the buds were covered in stock trichomes. But the seeds were mostly immature, I only managed to find a few ripe enough at the top to bring home. I was amazed by the lemon smell that wafted through the air as I approached the plants. However, my excitement was short-lived as I was suddenly confronted by a small dark brown bear. It was about my height but fat and with long claws. I managed to fend off the bear with spray after it jumped at me twice. I was lucky and escaped unharmed, but it was a close call. The location where I found the plant is a secret I keep to myself, but I can tell you that it was in the fall, mid-November, and the plant was ready for harvest.

Seeking Cannabis in the Bush of Remote Australia

While strain hunting the bush in remote Australia, I stumbled upon a truly unique strain of cannabis. The plants were growing in a garden surrounded by tall trees and the sound of the bush was all around me. I was admiring the plants when I saw a crocodile walking through the garden. I was a little startled, but I managed to avoid the crocodile and continued my search. Later, I was attacked by a kangaroo, but I smashed my pot and pans together and he ran off. The strain I found was truly unique, with a distinct aroma and beautiful buds covered in trichomes. It smelled of berries, mostly blueberries but other berries and fruits as well. I took back some seeds to Canada and stabilized them for many years. The results are amazing and Aussies love them because they grow in the harsh bush and can survive long times without water.

Finding a Short Indica Plant in Alaska

In September, while strain hunting, I found a short indica plant in Alaska that was purple in colour and ready to harvest. The plant was growing near some mining equipment, and I was scared for my life after finding bear poop nearby. This was after my trip to Northern Japan. But I managed to find the plant and collect some seeds to bring back home. The genetics from these plants live on in Alaskan Delight.

Stumbling Upon a Large Sativa Strain in Mexico

While visiting a famous area in Mexico known for cannabis growing and tourism, I stumbled upon a large sativa strain growing wild. It was a complete accident, and I couldn’t believe my luck. I quickly harvested some seeds and brought them back home, where they were used in breeding one of the world’s strongest strains.

Heading into the Hot and Humid Jungles of Columbia

In South America, I headed into the hot and humid jungles of Columbia in search of wild cannabis strains. I met some drunk people who promised to take me to a remote place where I could find rare strains. I was hesitant, but I decided to trust them after they sobered up. They took me to a remote farm, where I met a local who spoke English and he showed me his 130-acre cannabis farm of wild sativa. The strain was truly exotic, with a distinct cherry aroma and beautiful buds shining in white crystals. My new friend shared funny stories with me over a joint and even gave me some seeds to bring back home for breeding. It was such a social smoke that energized me and my thoughts. The conversations were speedy and I talked a lot about strain hunting around the world. They talked a lot about witches and cats and other local stuff.

Travelling Through Northern Africa

In Northern Africa, I met two 30ish year-old men who promised to take me to someone who knew about cannabis. The next morning, they picked me up from my hotel and took me across the desert by camel. We stopped at a small oasis, and the men told me to wait here as the unloaded their camels. I was scared being in the middle of the desert, there were no plants growing here. Eventually hours later a fat man on a camel arrived with a donkey carrying some sacks. The sacks were filled with cannabis seeds and hash, and I bought some of both. I was told that it was a wild hash plant landrace strain native to the area for thousands of years. The hash was sticky and sweet, and it smelled like hash. I smoked some around a fire as it got dark, and the high was clean and clear. The men built a tent and we spent the night looking at the stars in the desert. It was a truly unique and memorable experience. My only complaint was it got so cold at night and I needed more blankets than they provided me with.

A gem of a strain in Asia, Mongolia

In Asia, I traveled to Mongolia to go strain hunting once again. This time I had the opportunity to experience the local culture and customs. One of the highlights of my trip was eating horse balls with the locals. They didn’t taste so great, but it wasn’t as bad as you may imagine. I also had the chance to visit a remote area where I found some wild weed. Totally worth the adventure at the dinner table. The plants were tall and lanky, with long thin leaves and the small buds covered in trichomes. The aroma was citrus but pungent and sweet, and the high was uplifting and euphoric. The yields were low due to the poor soil conditions. That’s why they looked lanky. So even though the strain looked weak, I decided to bring the seeds back and work my magic. After years of working with them in decent soil, I bred another world’s strongest strain, this time high in CBD. The plant is trophy worthy now and a true champion in my humble opinion.

Bushy Strain in the Basque Countryside

In the Basque countryside of Europe, I met some locals who showed me some wild cannabis plants. The plants were short and bushy, with dark green leaves and buds covered in trichomes. The aroma was sweet and fruity, and the high was relaxing and sedative. The locals were friendly and welcoming, and they shared stories and jokes with me as we walked through the countryside.

Wild Exotic Strain in the Caucuses of Russia

In the Caucuses of Russia, I was taken into the mountains on horseback by some locals who I thought were gypsies. They showed me some wild cannabis plants growing in the wild. The plants were short and wide, with wide fat leaves and buds covered in trichomes. The aroma was earthy and fruity, and the high was mind numbing and strong. The locals were friendly and welcoming, and one of them shared stories and jokes with me as we rode through the mountains. They were amazing on horseback and daring. I had to tell them to take it easy numerous times. They were just so brave, and they loved to show off their equestrian skills and bravery.

Collecting Hybrid Seeds in New Zealand

In New Zealand, I met a lesbian couple who had a garden of cannabis growing in the countryside. The strains were hybrids, created by crossbreeding different landrace strains in the area. The plants were short and bushy, with dark green leaves and buds covered in trichomes. The aroma was sweet and earthy, and the high was relaxing and sedative. The women were friendly and welcoming, and they shared some tea with me before we took off tramping into the countryside. Tramping is Trekking and Camping, combined into one word.
