Before starting growing Marijuana it is a must to know whether you want an indoor growing system or an outdoor growing system for Marijuana. For growing Marijuana indoor DWC, or deep water culture is needed. DWC is a type of hydroponic growing method in which plant’s roots are grow in a tub of water.
The benefit of growing Marijuana in a DWC system is it promotes faster growth. Well, here are few pointers to consider while growing Marijuana:
First, let’s remove any fear you may have that this is going to be difficult to do. It is not as such.
Cannabis are flowering plants, they bear fruits only once a year that too only in the fall season when the daylight hours grow shorter. So, it important that you know that the light period, or photoperiod, of the plant, must be controlled. For that you need to place your pot plant in 12+ hours of light every day just to keep them from flowering.
If you will try to harvest an immature plant flowers, you will end up getting no or very less harvest. It is compulsory for a pot plant to grow, or vegetate, for at least a few weeks before flowering for an optimum results.
For providing your pot plant a proper vegetation, a young seedling should be grown for around four to six weeks before flowering starts. Also, it is important that during this time, your pot plant is getting a minimum of 16 hours of light, even 18-20 hours will be good, as more is better for Marijuana pot plants. Even if your plant is getting good sunlight make sure you arrange a lamp (horticulture lighting) also near the plant to help it get enough light.
Lamps for horticultural lighting comes in different prices from expensive to inexpensive lamps. A 250-watt HID (high-intensity discharge) bulb—either an HPS (high-pressure sodium) or MH (metal halide)—can work perfectly, and you can get in a nearby hardware stores.
Moreover, these bulbs need a specialized HID fixture and/or ballast, because they do not screw into any standard home fixture safely, these fixtures are costly, it may cost you like $200.
Alternatively, you can also use fluorescent bulbs to supplement the sunlight after sunset, if the whole day your pot plant is getting good sunlight. Fluorescent bulbs like T5’s, T8’s or even CFL’s can do the needful. Make sure that you provide enough light to your pot plant as it the most essential requirement of the pot plant to grow faster and healthier.
Once your plant is grown enough and is ready to produce enough flowers for a decent harvest, you can now change the light cycle to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark each day. During the light time or photoperiod, use lamp also along with the sunlight.
Also, it is important that during the dark cycle, your pot plant is strictly getting no light at all. As, any light leaks can disrupt the plant’s flowering, thereby affecting the harvest negatively.
Besides, type of container used, mediums, and nutrients also affect the growth of Marijuana pot plant. Make sure your plant containers offer enough breathability, best is fabric pot. Also, make sure your plant does not sit in stagnant water for long periods of time. As, it will not only change the pH, but also attract bugs and molds.
These are some important consideration while you plan to grow marijuana at your home. Besides these make sure you uses an airy medium, which will allow air to penetrate the roots of the pot plant.
That is all about growing your Marijuana indoor, just enjoy the process and observe the plant growing stage by stage!!
