420 Jobs Are Jobs in the Cannabis Industry

420 is a term used in North America. Stoners from around the world have no idea what 420 means. Even Australians are unaware. So if you’re interested finding employment in the cannabis industry, you need to know that a 420 Job posting is exactly what youre looking for.

Jobs in the Cannabis Industry

Now that marijuana is legal in several states, there are a lot of jobs available for people who want to make a career in the cannabis industry. Pot jobs are a dream for many people. It might be hard to believe that it is actually possible to make a living on marijuana, but it’s true. If getting paid to be around weed all day long sounds like heaven to you, here are some jobs that are worth thinking about.

Cultivator

Do you have a green thumb? Can you make anything grow, no matter the weather or soil? You might be destined to be a cultivator! Marijuana is a fairly forgiving plant and it is hard to kill, but if you want max results you still need to have plant sense and great attention to detail. As a cultivator, you’ll need to tell when a plant is drooping because it’s thirsty and when it’s drooping because it needs more nitrogen in the soil. It’s not rocket science – in fact, it’s something humans have been doing since before the start of history. But it is a dying art, as many people wouldn’t know how to grow a bean plant if they were starving in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. So if you have some skill at growing plants, it might be worth considering a career as a marijuana cultivator.

Master Chef

Are your skills better shown off in the kitchen? Can you whip up a tray of brownies that would make Dr. Atkins himself go off his diet? You might find your life’s calling as a marijuana edibles cook. Edibles are a big deal both in medical marijuana states and in recreational marijuana states, both because they are delicious and because you do not have to smoke to enjoy your pot. That means you don’t have to expose anyone around you to the smoke from a joint.

Budtender

Yes, this is actually a thing. The word is based on “bartender,” though budtenders do not serve marijuana for patrons to enjoy at the bar. Cannabis bars are still illegal, so when recreational marijuana customers or medical marijuana patients go to buy marijuana, they still have to take it home or to some safe place to be able to consume it. Despite not handing out joints for people to light up right there, budtenders actually have many similarities to bartenders. A budtender has to be an expert in marijuana. You have to know all the different varieties you sell, and why your customers would want each one. You have to be able to listen to your customer and guide him or her to the choice that best fits his or her needs. You also need to be personable and trustworthy, so that your customers will come back to you over and over again to help with their marijuana needs.

Paraphernalia Provider

As legal marijuana sweeps the country, paraphernalia like bongs and pipes will gradually stop being so taboo. Whether you believe in the purity of hand-blown glass or love the techy, geeky side of making bespoke coils for sub-ohm vapes, you will find that paraphernalia sales follow pot sales and you can cash in on it easily.

Advertising

Once upon a time, the black market would spread news of your marijuana for sale for you. Now, with dispensaries popping up on every other corner in some places, advertising suddenly is extremely important. If you have a flair for graphic design or word smithing, you can get a well-paying job advertising the different things that your patron dispensary offers and by luring in the customers with sleek designs and attractive offers.

Security

Somebody has to do it. You can’t be high on the job, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some of the the fruits of your labor (or, in this case, protection) after you get off work.

Tester/Reviewer

This would truly be the dream job come true – to be paid to smoke marijuana. A tester or reviewer, as the name implies, tests many different kinds of marijuana all day and ranks varieties by taste, potency, texture, burning action, and many other criteria. Don’t get too excited about the job, though – much of the testing happens without smoking it at all, and your on-the-job consumption would be very limited as you would need to be sober enough to pass judgments throughout the day.

Bud trimmer

Did you know that you can’t just sell a stalk of a marijuana plant? Nobody would buy it. There is some THC present in the leaves, but the vast majority of the good stuff is in the buds. When pot is prepared for sale, the trimmer cuts off the extra leaves and leaves just the buds, which is the good stuff that customers want.

Business consultant

If your area of expertise is making other people’s businesses grow, you have a bright future ahead of you as a business consultant in the marijuana industry. You can help cannabis companies overcome their struggles and develop strong strategies to meet their goals. You might not be smoking weed all day, but you will be helping pot providers succeed. And who knows what you might be able to light up in a closed-door business meeting with a client? It is, after all, your office and your rules.

Shop owner

The dream of every entrepreneurial pothead in the whole world is to become a pot shop or medical marijuana dispensary owner. Be careful, though: retail is a tough business, and it is easy to fail. If you have the business experience and capital to make a go of it, then good luck! But now you also know that if being a store owner is not the path for you, there are many, many other great careers you can pursue while working with weed.
Mr. BC Seeds

Mr. BC Seeds is an over educated old school hippy who has been involved in the cannabis industry since the 1970's. He is one of the most experienced marijuana breeders in Canada if not the entire world. He was the first to use the most advanced breeding techniques in 2008 to create 42 of the world's strongest cannabis strains. He has been writing in-depth articles about cannabis in Canada for decades and looks forward to continue bringing you cutting edge cannabis strains for the decades to come. Mr. BC Seeds uses a "pen name" because he still travels the world collecting cannabis strains and continues researching cannabis in laboratories of non-legalized countries.
